79, formerly of Ottawa, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, in Tempe, Arizona. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 21 at Dungeness Community Church, 45 Eberle Lane, P.O. Box 2920, Sequim, Washington, 98382. Mr. Brown was born in Ottawa, June 17, 1923, the seventh of twelve children of William and Alice Brown. During the depression years he worked with his father and brothers buying and selling farm produce at the By-Ward Market, acquiring skills and disciplines he valued his whole life. Following military service as a radar technician during WWII, he enjoyed a long and successful business career. In September 1945 he married Dorothy Bentley in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia. For nearly three years he worked with his father-in-law in the local Bentley and Archibald Ford dealership. Then, after a stint as an aviation technician with the National Research Council in Ottawa, he became an insurance underwriter with Metropolitan Life. Moving to Great-West Life in 1953, he rose through the ranks to become one of the company's most successful managers, first in Montreal, then in Vancouver. In 1968 he became the company's Vice-President of Marketing at corporate headquarters in Winnipeg. None of his achievements gave him as much pleasure, however, as his family and his involvement in Christian ministries. He was a passionate and transparent Christian, a lay preacher, and Bible teacher all his life. He was for several decades a respected member of the Christian Business Men's Committee, and served for many years on the Council of the Firs Bible and Missionary Conference in Bellingham, Washington. He was General Chairman of the Vancouver Billy Graham Crusade in 1965 and of the Victoria Terry Winters Evangelistic Crusade in 1975. After early retirement took him to Sequim, Washington in 1975, he and his wife Dorothy began a home Bible fellowship that eventually grew to become Dungeness Community Church. He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his cherished partner of 52 years, in 1997. He is survived by his four children, daughter Lynne Stehlik and her husband Milan, of Newmarket, Ontario; son Bruce Brown and his wife Beverly, of Vancouver, B.C; daughter Katherine Jeffrey and her husband David, of Waco, Texas; and daughter Barbara Robertson and her husband Tim, of Sequim, Washington; precious grandchildren Michael and Robert Stehlik, Yvonne Brown, Gideon and Joshua Jeffrey; and Amelia, Erika, and Miranda Robertson. He also leaves his beloved wife of three years, Nena Brown, of Tempe, Arizona, her children Frank, Kelly, Colleen, and Bryan, and their families in Colorado and Arizona. "Let us run the race not only for the prize; but as those who've gone before us, let us leave to those behind us the heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives." Memorial donations may be made to the Gideon Bible Society. The Ottawa Citizen, 14-09-2002
