Denver Broncos roster cuts tracker | Sporting News (2024)

Following a 3-0 preseason, the Denver Broncos now have until 2:00 p.m. MT on Tuesday to set their 53-man roster. There will be some interesting discussions as the team goes from 90 players to 53.

Whether or not the team will keep all three quarterbacks seems to be the top talking point heading into roster cutdown day. There are good arguments both for and against the team doing that.

Either way, the team will have some tough decisions to make when setting this roster and then compiling a 17-man practice squad. In an update on an injury that occurred during Sunday's preseason finale, defensive back Damarri Mathis has been diagnosed with a sprained ankle. He will likely start the season on injured reserve, forcing him to miss the first four games at least, but he won't count against the team's 53-man roster.

Following an MRI exam this morning, Broncos' CB Damarri Mathis has a high ankle sprain, per source. No timetable on his return. We'll see what this means for 53 man roster. He was going to make it as a No. 3 corner/special teamer. #9sports

ROSTER CUTS

Trenton Gill, Punter (source)

Riley Dixon wins the punting competition despite Gill leading the NFL in punting average in the preseason.

Art Green, Cornerback (source)

Art Green joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Houston last year.

Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver (source)

Dorsett was released early this offseason by the Broncos but was brought back just days later. His path to the 53-man roster was always an uphill climb.

Kaleb Hayes, Cornerback (source)

The Broncos claimed Hayes off waivers from the New York Giants just two weeks ago.

Alec Mock, Linebacker (source)

Not much of a surprise here as the Broncos waived Mock three other times this preseason.

Angelo Blackson, Defensive Lineman (source)

Andre Smith, Linebacker (source)

Oliver Jervis, Offensive Lineman (source)

Omar Brown, Safety (source)

Jalen Virgil, Wide Receiver (source)

Virgil was discussed as a possible kick return specialist for the Broncos, but there is just too much depth at wide receiver. He could wind up back with the team on the practice squad.

Tyler Badie, Running Back (source)

This had to be a tough cut, even if it was expected. Badie played great this summer but the Broncos had too much depth at running back. He will likely end up on the practice squad if he's not claimed on waivers, which could easily happen.

Brandon Johnson, Wide Receiver (source)

A victim of the numbers game, Johnson has been a productive wide receiver when needed for the Broncos and should get another shot elsewhere in the league.

Reese Taylor, Cornerback (source)

David Sills, Wide Receiver (source)

Sills is another wide receiver who flashed when his number was called and could easily be a practice squad addition if he clears waivers. Lil'Jordan Humprey is closing in on the sixth wide receiver spot.

Thomas Yassmin, Tight End (source)

Hunter Kampmoyer, Tight End (source)

Dondrea Tillman, Edge (source)

Tillman played well after coming over from the UFL champion Birmingham Stallions. He was a fringe roster player but finds himself on the outside looking in.

Durell Nchami, Edge (source)

Nchami suffered a hamstring injury in the preseason finale.

Thomas Incoom, Edge (source)

It appears that the Broncos will keep only four edge rushers (Baron Browning, Nik Bonitto, Jonathon Cooper and Jonah Elliss).

Michael Bandy, Wide Receiver (source)

Jonas Griffith, Linebacker (source)

This will be seen as a surprise, but undrafted linebacker Levelle Bailey was too hard to cut.

Matt Henningsen, Defensive Lineman (source)

Henningsen was a sixth-round pick in 2022 he played well when needed but the additions of Malcolm Roach and John Franklin-Myers in the offseason made him expendable.

Sam Mustipher, Center (source)

Alex Forsyth may now be safe as the backup center to Luke Wattenberg.

Nick Gargiulo, Offensive Lineman (source)

Rookie seventh-round pick has been let go.

Demontrey Jacobs, Offensive Lineman (source)

Will Sherman, Offensive Lineman (source)

Calvin Throckmorton, Offensive Lineman (source)

Elijah Garcia, Defensive Lineman (source)

Tanner McCalister, Defensive Back (source)

Quinton Newsome, Cornerback (source)

Lil'Jordan Humphrey, Wide Receiver (source)

Michael Burton, Fullback (source)

Tim Patrick, Wide Receiver (source)

Samaje Perine, Running Back (source)

The Broncos were apparently unable to find a trade partner for Patrick or Perine.
