GROUP DYNAMICS, PROFESSIONAL STEREOTYPES AND DOMINANCE–THE PERFORMANCE OF INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAMS IN HOSPITALS

This paper discusses group development in real life naval groups and groups of physicians in hospitals. In this study groups facing identical challenges under comparable environmental conditions are analyzed. The study covers groups from two different settings: military groups on maneuvers and medical groups during important strategic planning processes in hospitals. The setup for observation, two maneuvers for the military groups and strategic decisions with high impact and tight time schedules in the medical groups, emphasize the groups' ability to make the best decisions under rapidly changing conditions and/or high levels of stress. Shifts in role structure, predominant interpersonal behavior, and emergent dynamic patterns are discussed in the light of the SPGR theory and method. The concepts of the late US Air Force Colonel John R. Boyd have influenced military thought in profound ways, from the design of modern fighter aircraft to the tactics used by the US Marine Corps in both Gulf Wars. Personality and Mental Health Attitudes Among US Army ROTC Cadets

With the current military mental health crisis, it is important to understand the role of the leader in military mental health. First, the impact of military leader behaviors on the well-being of military personnel is reviewed. Next, the role of leader attitudes as a precursor to leader behaviors is discussed. The relation of leader behaviors to leader personality using the NEO Five Factor Model (FFM) is reviewed, as well as the relation of prejudicial attitudes to the NEO FFM personality factors. A research project is described that attempted to draw these concepts together, assessing the NEO FFM personality dimensions and mental health attitudes of US Army ROTC cadets, the future leaders of the US Army. No significant relations were observed between NEO FFM personality traits and mental health attitudes, even after controlling for Impression Management. Distributed Swarming and Stigmergic Effects on ISIS Networks: OODA Loop Model

The stigmergic swarming of digital media environments with propaganda and personal communication made the self-proclaimed Islamic State (also known as ISIS, IS, ISIL and Daesh) one of the strongest terror groups in the world. This study aims to identify the digital manoeuvre warfare tactics deployed by ISIS to survive the degrading operation initiated by its adversaries. In this paper, we emphasise that the information operations of terror organisations are not limited to a certain application or communication platform. Instead, the emergence of anonymous platforms (e.g., Justpase, Sendvid) and encryption communication applications (e.g., Telegram, WhatsApp) has enabled ISIS's information operations and helped the organisation to maintain its networking structure. This paper examines the role played by anonymous platforms in ISIS' operations from an information-centric warfare perspective. The theoretical framework is derived from manoeuver warfare based on John Boyd's OODA loop theory. The data collection involves a digital ethnography approach, concentrated on tracing and observing ISIS' digital activities across anonymous platforms and encrypted communication channels. The study suggests that the failure of ISIS' adversaries in operating inside the OODA loop of ISIS led to the organisation's survival and proliferation of its information operations.

Leadership Development: Leadership Emergence to Leadership Effectiveness

This study aimed to understand how leadership effectiveness of the trainer in a leadership development program can influence emerging leaders’ development and effectiveness. We hypothesized that the trainer’s leadership effectiveness would be a boundary condition. In this two year longitudinal field study, military cadets’ leadership effectiveness from their emergence as informal peer leaders during basic training through the officer training course (OTC) to their formal leadership roles as active duty officers was followed. The sample included 854 cadets and their 72 trainers. We found that cadets’ effectiveness during OTC mediated the relationship between informal leadership emergence during basic training and their subsequent effectiveness as formal leaders. Furthermore, trainers’ effectiveness moderated the relationship between cadets’ informal leadership emergence and effectiveness in OTC.
