[Top 10] Kenshi Best Base Locations And Why They're Great (2022 Edition) (2024)

Kenshi - a game where you will suffer. If this is your first rodeo, you can expect to die. ALOT. BY MANY THINGS - such as Beak Things, Dust Bandits, Cannibals, the religious folk from the Holy Nation, Skin Spiders, Wolves, and many more disturbing creatures that this sick game has to offer, thus the best option is to create your base:

And that’s exactly what we will talk about - the best locations for bases in Kenshi. Let’s get started:

10. The Great Desert - Northern Parts

If you don’t mind being taxed by Tengu and his clowns, then you don’t have to worry about a thing - maybe some bandit raids from time to time, but if you have even the weakest harpoons, you’re gonna mop the floor with them. In The Great Desert, winds are pretty common, thus making it useful for gathering energy via wind generators. It’s especially useful for robots - you don’t get a -10 attack debuff (sand doesn’t get in your eyes during sandstorms!).

How to get to the northern parts of The Great Desert:

-Deserts are mostly flat there. Click on the red circle and it will take you there automatically, but be careful though - you might encounter slavers or other bandits, so make sure to go around them.

What makes this location great:

- If you’re smart, you’re gonna make a base with an entry near the water level - swimming in this game is SLOW, giving your harpooners a lot of time to shoot at your opponents.

- Constant winds, with only short breaks from time to time.

- If you walk along the coastline, you should find both copper and iron ore relatively close to each other and makes gathering resources easy and safe.

9. Vain

I forgot to mention - Vain is only good IF you’re a Robot or the Hiver. Vain quite often has rainy periods that will melt your skin off with acid. If you’re stubborn, you could also venture there as a Shek or a Human or whoever is not naturally resistant to acid, just make sure to put on some clothes that will protect you from acid!

Why is the area so good? You won’t really get raided by anyone, besides Beak Things, which are too dumb to break into your base. The area is also very fertile and filled with natural resources, thus you’ll prospect fairly well!

How to get to Vain:

It’s easy, either start your playthrough as an Hiver or a Wanderer. Wanderers only have to travel a bit to the West and bam - you’re there.

What makes this location great:

- Natural protection from the acid rain - makes it harder for your enemies to get to your base, without getting their skin melted first!

- Rich in resources(copper, iron)

-Fertile lands

-Beautiful zone(might affect fps <3)

8. Fog Islands

Fog Islands. If you are an experienced player, you might think of me as a troll after visiting that lovely area. Fog Islands is a Fogman infested area, they come in large numbers, thus if you are a relatively weak character, please, do not BASE there. But if you are strong, you don’t have to worry about a thing - you’ll kill them 1 by 1 and still find the time to build your base!

How to get to Fog Islands:

The easiest path is to go north from the Border Zone, then halfway through the Okran’s Gulf, afterward you turn west - bam. You’re in Fog Islands.

What makes this location great:

- Surrounded by weak enemies

- You can make a base surrounded by hills(natural protection)

-Close to the city(you can buy your self resources)

-Grim atmosphere

7. Cannibal Plains

Again. What’s wrong with me? Why would I tell anyone to base in this hellhole? Well, similar to Fog Islands, the area is swarming with large sums of cannibals that are extremely weak - only if you are not weak yourself. Make sure to spend at least 20-30 days of fighting river raptors before going there!

How to get to Cannibal Plains:

- Cannibal Plains are a hard area to get to - if you’re in the Border Zone, you’d have to weasel your way through the Holy Nation territory, crossing to The Hidden Forest and then finally arriving in the Cannibal Plains.

What makes this location great:

-Weak enemies that make great target practice for your lower stat characters.

- Again, fertile lands.

- The area is filled with great areas(flat terrains, hills, etc), but the best area is a crater that guarantees you natural protection from all the angles and you don’t have to waste too many resources on walls.

6. Border Zone

Border Zone is a scorching hellhole. It’s perfect if you want to grow cactuses and bread. The water situation in this region is kinda meh, but it’s filled with hills that you can build on and have an advantage over the Shek pricks, Ninjas, and Dust Bandits.

How to get to the Border Zone:

It’s simple. Set your spawning zone in the Border Zone, or get there from any other location that you’ve spawned in. The best locations are the locations in the hills, there is one spot with copper and iron with only one entrance, which makes this probably one of the greatest locations to set your base in - unfortunately, I forgot where it was…

What makes this location great:

-The area is awesome, filled with diverse enemies that won’t bore you to death.

-Rich with resources such as copper/iron.

-The terrain is not flat but filled with hills and steep roads. Awesome area to build a multi-layer base on!

5. Stobe’s Gamble

Stobe’s Gamble. It’s a dangerous area, filled with hostile wildlife and some pricks that might beat the crap out of you and leave you for death.

The area is not very colorful, matter of fact, it’s very dark - even in the middle of the day. There are even some weird black particles falling from the sky - and that’s why I love this area!

How to get to Stobe’s Gamble:

Whether you’re coming over here from the Border Zone or the Great Desert, you’ll face a lot of bandits and possible Beak Things. Stobe’s Gamble is also filled with Gorillos, luckily for you, they’re slow as hell and you can outrun them!

What makes this location great:

- Look for craters - if you base there, you’ll be surrounded by hills and be guaranteed natural protection.

- Stobe’s Gamble is probably one of the most atmospheric zones in the whole world of Kenshi. Grim and sinister!

- Other zones surrounding Stobe’s Gamble are dangerous crapholes, with even more dangerous enemies, so you can kidnap random people from other zones and build a huge/powerful army!

4. Deadlands

Deadlands - if you’re a new player, let me explain - Deadlands is an acidy hellhole that is pretty much only friendly to robots - if you’re stubborn, you can settle there with a population of Sheks, Hivers, or Humans, under the condition that you wear acid-resistant armor and regularly purchase food from the city in Deadlands. (You could also make your base on the border, making the farm on Skinner’s Roam and the rest of your base in Deadlands).

How to get to the Deadlands:

It’s easy - simply goddamn click on Deadlands and it will take you there automatically. Find a spot deep down in the territory, wherever you want, and never worry about anyone raiding you again(just please, make a robot army!).

What makes this location great:

-If you make a hellton of enemies, making a base in this zone will make you pretty much untouchable from most factions due to the acid rain.

-Scraphouse - if you don’t know what that is, it’s basically a massive shop that allows you to purchase high-quality armor/weapons.

-Filled with warehouses that may contain ancient science books, engineering research and AI cores.

3. Fishman Island

Glurgh, glurgh, glurgh. That’s what I’ve heard the first time I went there, I felt confident enough to face off literally HUNDREDS of angry fishmen, and I’ve killed hundreds of them, unfortunately, they eventually crippled me and dragged my miserable ass to their hideout. I ended up being tied to a post, hacked to death, and eaten alive. Good times! After good 500 hours in this game, I came back to this place with a large army, slaughtered every Fishman I’ve encountered, and finally the King Gurgler(their leader). Habitants of that island were decimated and it was easy for me now to settle there!

How to get to Fishman Island:

Fishman Island is located in the south of the map. The only entrance to the island is through a narrow bridge or by water, either way, the island gives you plenty of time to prepare for an attack.

What makes this location great:

-Isolated and surrounded by water

-The island is only connected by a bridge

-A crapton of resources

-Fertile lands

-Rich with water

2. Forbidden Isle(Islands to the south)

Unsure whether those islands are part of the Forbidden Isle or the Greenbeach, but I’m sure as hell that they’re awesome as heck to build a base on. They are completely deserted(well, maybe there are a few crabs) and are very far from other zones, making this the second-best area in Kenshi(IMO, of course…).

How to get to the Forbidden Isle(Islands to the south):

Those 2 islands are located far to the east of the map. You’ll encounter most likely Beak Things, bandits, and pirates and then through a long swim to the islands - have fun!

What makes this location great:

- Filled both with copper and iron, making it unnecessary to leave those islands.

- Fertile lands, you can grow almost everything there.

- Rich in water.

- Isolated and extremely hard to get raided by anyone.

1. Levathian Coast

Leviathan Coast is the only place that I could breathe in after going through complete and utter hell - first the Holy Nation lunatics, then the cannibals that beat the crap out of me and would have eaten me if Cannibal Hunters didn’t save me. The place was worth it, besides Beak Things you won’t have to worry about anything else - maybe Levathians if you provoke them!

How to get to the Leviathan Coast:

It’s a pain in the ass and you’ll have to fight your way through bandits, Holy Nation fanatics and the cannibals. Just keep going north and don’t stop for nothin’!

What makes this location great:

-It’s just peaceful, the only wildlife that’s gonna kill you are the Beak Things, but they’re universally hated by other wildlife in that region, so you don’t have to worry too much about them!

-Land is extremely fertile and watery, you can plant everything there and never run out of food!

-Copper and iron, never seen bigger reserves anywhere else!

-There are libraries and outposts scattered across the Leviathan Coast, so if you’re in a need of ancient science books, feel free to go there!
